James C. Hennis

Mr. James C. Hennis, Jr., of Kearny passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at home.  He was 102.  
The funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Stephen's Church, Kearny on Thursday, July 6 at 10:30am.  Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum with military honors.  Relatives and friends may visit in the funeral home on Wednesday, July 5 from 3-6 pm and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10 am.
Born in Jersey City, Jim lived in Kearny for 64 years.  He had been a bus drive/operator for Public Services/Transport of NJ for 38 years until retiring in 1976.  He was a  member of the Holy Name Society and an usher at St. Stephen's Church for many years.  He was also a member the Knights of Columbus council # 3428 in No. Arlington.
He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII as a sergeant 1st class from 1940-1945.
He was predeceased by his wife, Grace (nee Hanson) in Dec. 25, 2016 as well as his sisters, Frances Bayone, Loretta Flatley and Helen Hennis.  Surviving are his children, Barbara G. Ward and her husband, Douglas, Kathleen M. Hennis, James M. Hennis and his wife, Catherine, Richard D. Hennis and Steven R. Hennis and his wife, Nicole; as well as 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Jim's memory to the St. Stephen's Heritage Fund.  Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
