Lillian J Walsh

Lillian Joan(Black) Walsh died at the Cleveland Clinic after an 11 month courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. She underwent 2 bone marrow transplants and suffered numerous complications.
Visitation will be held in Condon Funeral Home, 684 Kearny Ave, Kearny on Wednesday December 27 from 10-12 with entombment immidiately following Holy Cross Chapel Masoleum, North Arlington.
She was born on October 4, 1951 in Newark to Lillian Cecile and James P Black Sr. Lillian grew up in Kearny and North Arlington. She attended St Stephen's Parish School and Queen of Peace High School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology (Cum Laude) from Villanova University, Villanova, PA and a Masters of Science from St John's University, Queens, New York.
Lillian was a Reaserch Technologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital; Manager-General Chemistry, Metpath (Quest Diagnostics) and Vice President of Operations, Differential Diagnostics.
In 1989, she and her family relocated to Toledo, Ohio. She was very active in the community serving as the President and Board Member of the Junior League of Toledo and the Toledo Hospital and a board member of the Toledo Zoo and Toledo Symphony. Ohio Governor George Voinovich appointed her to a 9 year term of the Board of Trustees of the Medical University of Ohio. During her tenure, she was elected the Chair. She succesfully guided the University through tumultuous times including reduced State funding, the untimely deaths of 2 sitting presidents, and the merger of the institution with the University of Toledo.
Lillian was appointed to the President's Advisory Council of Villanova University and recived the Distinguished Alumns Award from its College of Arts and Science.
Her family was the center of her life. They were close knit and especially enjoyed time together.
She resided in Toledo, Bay Harbor, Michigan and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Lillian was preceded by her parents and older brother, James P Jr. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, F. Michael Walsh MD (Toledo/Palm Beach Gardens) and her children: Brian(Pacific Grove, CA), Joseph(Santa Fe,NM), Kevin(Tempe,AZ), Timothy(Toledo) and Marissa(Philidelphia,PA) along with 5 grandchildren.
